What is Reliability?

 Reliability is the ability of an item to perform a required function under stated conditions for a stated period of time. (BS 4778)

Reliability is related with quality. Reliability is the quality in time dimension. Today, reliability can be applied to lots of areas such as mechanical systems, softwares, electronic systems, design processes...

We can talk of reliability management or human reliability or reliability of the products. It is a concept that can be applied almost wherever you want.
